A very special New England in-home newborn session with my sister, brother-in-law, and my new baby nephew! With an appearance by the 4-legged nieces and nephews, of course.
There’s something incredibly special about photographing a newborn, especially when it’s your own sister and her new baby. Recently, I ventured into the wild (also known as my sister's living room) for an in-home session that was equal parts heartwarming and hilarious.
In-home sessions allow the family to stay in their natural environment. The baby is more comfortable, the parents are more at ease, and the photos reflect the true essence of their everyday life. My sister’s home was the perfect backdrop for this session, where the motto was "go with the flow", because let's be honest, newborns and dogs have their own agendas.
What I love most about lifestyle sessions is how they embrace the realness and simplicity of the moment. There’s no pressure to pose perfectly or to make sure everything is just right. Instead, we focus on the little details—the way they cradle their baby, the soft smiles exchanged, those tiny fingers wrapped around theirs, and of course, the dogs pushing their way into every shot they could.
Throughout it all, the vibe was calm and unhurried--well, as calm as you can be with a newborn and three dogs! We took breaks when the baby needed to eat or be soothed, which makes everything feel authentic and easygoing. The photos we ended up with are a perfect mix of sweet, silly, and everything in between.
In-home newborn sessions aren’t just about taking pretty photos; they’re a chance to capture the beautiful chaos of real life. Messy, unpredictable, and full of love, these are the moments that really matter. I’m so grateful I could be there for my sister and brother-in-law during this special time!
